Lillehammer Blues Festival canceled

The Lillehammer Blues Festival was planned to be held at the Quality Hotel Hafjell, north of Lillehammer, on May 12 through 15. The Festival has sent out a press release stating that it has been cancelled.

The reason for the cancellation is that ticket sales have been far weaker than budgeted and expected.
- There has been a total lack of ticket sales and it would be irresponsible to continue. We have placed ads in both the music press and national press with no positive results. The right thing to do is cancel, said festival board member Shan Arve Ytterland.

Reasons for the poor ticket sales have been discussed by the festival board,
but they can find no explanation for the total failure. The program has been questioned; perhaps a better headliner was needed. Or maybe people were simply too slow at buying tickets?
Candy Kane, who has already been paid, will be coming anyway. So there will still be a blues show in Lillehammer this May, although quite smaller than planned.

Other artists in the festival lineup would have been Guitar Shorty, The Quireboys, Rolf Wikström, Memo Gonzalez, Gina Sicilia, Dave Herrero, Samuel James, Gráinne Duffy, Eric "Slim" Zahl, Rage & Bone and Hennessy Blues Band.
