ZZ Top will headline the Skånevik Blues Festival this year. The negotiations have taken quite awhile, but a deal has finally been reached. ZZ Top will play on Friday, July 2nd, 2010.
Skånevik has had some big names before, (Whitesnake, Chuck Berry, Deep Purple, the Blues Brothers and Gary Moore), and now ZZ Top. The band has sold millions of records and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. They are known for their spectacular stage shows and we imagine ticket sales will be brisk. Alf W. and his crew are celebrating, and all ZZ Top fans can mark this date on their calenders.
ZZ Top was formed in 1969, and the original line up of Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard are still at it. They have toured with B.B. King and Muddy Waters, and some of the songs from their early albums, such as ”Jesus Just Left Chicago”, ”Tush” and ”Waiting For The Bus”, are considered classics of the genre. That, plus their instensive four decades of touring, has made them one of worlds hottest attractions. Their Worldwide Texas Tour sold over one million tickets.
ZZ Top first toured Europe in the early 1980s. Their 9th album, ”Eliminator”, gained them wordwide attention. After a short flirtation with synthezisers and pop music , ZZ Top has returned to their blues roots. Even though their carreer had its ”peak” in the 1970s and early 80s, they are still one of the worlds most popular bluesrock bands.
ZZ Top was in Norway for the first time in October, 1981, when they played at Sentrum Scene in Oslo. The small west coast town of Skånevik is next!
